Entertainment Law
Entertainment Law
Entertainment law deals with the various aspects of the cultural, media and sport industries. This area is closely related to intellectual property since entertainment lawyers inevitably need to address copyright and trademark issues.
Our entertainment law practice involves the drafting and negotiation of agreements in many different fields, including music, television, cinema, multimedia, books, museology, etc. We represent producers, artists, artists' associations, producers' associations, copyright management organizations, independent production funds for media product financing, advertising and communication agencies, museums, art galleries, athletes and athlete managers.
We also litigate disputes in connection with these industry sectors.
Our practice extends to services such as:
. Contracts between designers, composers, film directors and producers;
. Contracts between artists, performers and show producers (songs, comedy, etc...), record companies, etc.;
. Advertising contracts and contracts with artist or athlete agents and managers;
. Contracts with text or script writers;
. Merchandizing contracts for literary or artistic works, copyrights and trademarks;
. Advising on issues related to an artist's image or reputation;
. Prevention of libel or invasion of privacy suits through review of audio-visual material, text, stand-up comedy material;
. Representation before the Commission de reconnaissance des associations d’artistes et des associations de producteurs (CRAAAP) in connection with the application of Status of the Artist provincial laws;
. Development of corporate and financial structures for film projects, product distribution, etc.
. Disputes in matters of entertainment, media and sports law;
. Taxation in connection with these matters.
